Paragliding and Hang Gliding

We provide accomodation and full support for flying holidays run by paragliding and Hang gliing schools and clubs and for groups of appropriately qualified and experienced pilots, from our Gite at the foot of Laragne Chabre, as well as B&B for visiting pilots at certain times, we do not however provide pilot training. Ab-initio training can also be booked with one of the local French schools. For qualified and experienced pilots the sites, topography and climate provide an excellent area for safe reliable cross-country flying most of the season. Local fly guiding can be booked with local guides and instructors for those who want to explore the potential of the area.

Weather conditions in the late spring/early summer and Autumn are perfect for first cross-countries and perfecting early thermaling. The number and variety of local sites allow us to provide a service to include visits to a range of sites within the week should this be desired by the group, subject of course to wind direction and weather. Conditions in July and August are strong and this is the season when Laragne is a popular base for international Paragliding and Hang-gliding competitions.

Services can be tailored to meet the requirements of the school or organiser to include any or all of the following in addition to B&B in our quality accommodation with pool;
  • Airport pickup and return from Marseille (or Nice by arrangement).
  • Local weather and site information.
  • Shuttle service to and from sites including between landing and take-off,
  • Retrieves for XC pilots.
  • Evening meals by arrangement.
  • Transport to alternative activities on non-flyable days.
  • Local information and booking service.
  • Itinerant weeks or visits to other more distant sites.

The local area and standard of our accommodation, with large pool, make this an ideal base for groups which include non-flying partners.

Group size is up to 10 plus organiser with special rates for organisers based on group size.

Weather conditions, local meteorology and topography mean this area of the southern alps is one of the best areas for improving your flying and for mixed ability groups.

Sailplane / Gliding Holidays

  • "Best flying area in Europe"
  • Over 300 flyable days per year
  • 6 Airfields within 30 mins drive
  • Home of the world record holder
  • Home of the French National Centre
  • Holidays to suit your needs
  • Great family base

The area around us is generally acknowledged as one of, if not the best in Europe for gliding. It purports to having between 300 and 330 flyable days a year and it is no accident that the French National gliding centre is based at St Auban some 25 minutes to the South, or that the French freefall parachute team are based at Tallard airfield, 20 minutes North, they know where the weather is. There are in fact 5 sailplane airfields within 30 minutes drive of our base here all providing glider hire instruction and aero tow facilities and several others further up and down the valley, winching is also available at Motte du Caire some 30 minutes away. The specific aerology, topography and meteorology of the area mean that regular flights to the Northern Alps, Switzerland and Germany are made by local pilots.

For groups of visiting pilots we provide luxury self catering or B&B accommodation we can also provide transport to airfield airport pickups as well as evening meals where required, as pilots ourselves we understand the need for flexibility and can generally adjust times to suit the day's activities. The Gite is also available to rent as a whole for self sufficient groups or club or school groups.
